In Matthew 12:38, the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign to prove that he is the Son of God. He refused. But Elder David Pyles shows us that Jesus is exactly what a reasonable thinking person would expect of God manifested in the flesh. In this, Jesus is indeed His own sign.

Pyles: Prophecy to Cyrus and the Gentiles (Spring ’09)

Elder David Pyles exposits the 45th chapter of Isaiah, in which God reveals the name and future deeds of the Persian king Cyrus, conqueror of the great city of Babylon. In his prophecy Isaiah makes clear that God is using Cyrus, a Gentile king, to accomplish His will and deliver a message both to the Israelites and to all of His children through the ages. That message is distilled in Isaiah 45:24: “Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness….” Not in our works or the works of other men, but in God alone is our hope.

David Pyles: God Hath Shined in Our Hearts (Spring ’09)

Elder David Pyles of Jackson, Mississippi, delivered the first discourse of our Annual Spring Meeting. He took as his text 2 Cor 4:6: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” He presented a compelling case that this verse speaks of spiritual regeneration; the new birth.

We who believe in God while the world does not, believe because of a one-time event in our lives when God commanded light to shine in our hearts.
