In the first message of a series on the book of Ruth, Elder Gus Harter exposits chapter 1. The story is one of a prodigal family of Israelites, forsaking their promised inheritance in the land of Canaan during famine to flee to the land of Moab. Three of the four family members die in Moab, leaving matriarch Naomi destitute in a strange place. Naomi decides to repent of her flight to Moab, leave her sons’ Moabite widows Orpah and Ruth behind, and return to Israel. Although Ruth apparently has nothing to gain by immigrating to Israel, she chooses to do so, voicing a beautiful testimony of her love and faithfulness to Naomi.
Elder Harter will continue the study of Ruth for several weeks.
