Sun 1/25: Coy Thomas

Elder Coy Thomas will preach for us on Sunday morning 1/25. Our pastor, Elder Gus Harter, is visiting churches and ministers in the Philippines.

Sun 1/25: Afternoon Services at Shiloh

Bethany Church will not hold regular services at 2:00 PM on Sunday 1/25. Instead, the church voted to meet with Shiloh Church in Loganville, where Elder Lasserre Bradley, Jr. of Cincinnati Primitive Baptist Church will be filling a special appointment.

The Ministry of Christ

On the morning of Coy Thomas’ ordination and the launch of his formal ministry, Elder Dan Hall reflects on the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. The gospel of Luke (4:18-19) reveals that our Lord read to a Jewish congregation from Isaiah 61 to explain why He was speaking publicly: “he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Elder Hall explores each aspect of this charge and shows how Christ fulfilled it during the three years He taught and preached before His work was done.

Salvations by Grace

On the morning of his ordination day, Coy Thomas preached a sermon that gave assurance to all in attendance that he is indeed “apt to teach,” as the scriptures require. This lesson is a survey of scriptures from both old and new testaments touching on the theme of salvation. Elder Thomas shows us that salvation is not a singular concept in God’s word. With authority and passion, he distinguishes between several salvations taught in scripture, including the eternal salvation wrought by Christ; the specific, momentary salvation of God’s providential involvement in the lives of His children; and the salvation brought about by our own obedience.
